By using the bittersweet, creamy, oak-matured tones of their famous Yamazaki whisky to enrich this fruity plum wine, Suntory takes inspiration from Western-brewing techniques to create a rich and thoroughly refreshing umeshu plum liqueur. Blended with fruity and roasted vanilla notes, thanks to adept use of their old oak Yamazaki whisky casks, this plum wine is aged to produce a wonderfully deep and aromatic palate. Finished with a light touch of brandy to sweeten the bitter edge of this complex plum wine, this exquisite beverage is best enjoyed chilled, whether straight or mixed with soda water.
Umeshu is made by steeping unripened Japanese plums in alcohol and sugar to allow the flavours to infuse. The sour flavour of the ume plums and the sweetness of the sugar combine to give umeshu a sweet and sour flavour. Best served chilled, umeshu can be enjoyed straight, mixed with soda, or combined with other beverages for a seriously fruity cocktail.
We suggest a soda mixture of one part umeshu to two parts soda water. It fills the palate with a rich and lingering flavor.
